COMMUNITY AND AREA EVENTS:

Town Hall Meeting on I-66 Solutions
The meeting was cancelled due to heavy snow on February 6th and will be re-scheduled.

Along with Congressman Wolf and Supervisor Michael Frey, Supervisor Pat Herrity will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting on February 6, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Chantilly High School. Titled "I-66 - Today and the Future: Common Sense Solutions to Address Gridlock," they invite you to learn the about short and long-term solutions to the congestion on I-66 outside of the Beltway that are underway or being discussed including:

-Extended use of the shoulder lanes, including weekends  
-Non-HOV use of the ramps at Monument Dr. and Stringfellow Rd. outside of normal HOV hours  
-The bus-only ramp at Nutley (Vaden Street)  
-The interchange at I-495 and I-66
-The status of the Environmental Impact Statement for an I-66 Multimodal Study
-The status of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation's study of Transit/Transportation Demand Management for I-66  
-A session on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

There will also be a question and answer session where the public will be provided an opportunity to ask questions and provide input on these important issues.

 

Fair Lakes Photo Contest
The Fair Lakes League is sponsoring a photo contest to celebrate all there is to love about Fair Lakes.  Please submit your favorite photos, taken in and around Fair Lakes, portraying family, lifestyle, community and nature. All submissions should be in a high resolution electronic format of 300 dpi or better.

To submit a photo, please send it as an attachment in an e-mail to FairlakesPhoto@Fairlakes.com Include your name, address and phone number, along with any additional information about the photo.  Multiple photos may be submitted.  Deadline for entries is February 10, 2010.

Photos submitted may be used in the Fair Lakes Magazine or on the Fair Lakes website. By the submission of an image, photographers release to the Fair Lakes League the right to reproduce the image for use in these mediums.  If a photo is selected to be featured on the website or in the Fair Lakes Magazine, the photographer will be notified and awarded a gift certificate from a Fair Lakes business.


Celebrate Fairfax, Inc.
Celebrate Fairfax, Inc. organizes the highly anticipated Fairfax Fair each June and the annual Fall for Fairfax Celebration each October. Both events are held right around the corner from Fair Lakes at the Fairfax County Government Center.

Toastmasters
Toastmasters International is the word's largest non-profit organization helping men and women become more effective listeners, speakers and leaders. Columbia Gas Transmission, located at 12801 Fair Lakes Parkway, recently chartered a chapter of Toastmasters International called Full of Energy Toastmasters. Their club is open to the public. They invite you to come attend their meetings to see what Toastmasters is all about. Meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month from 12 pm – 1 pm. FAIR LAKES SOFTBALL LEAGUE

The Fair Lakes Softball League is a co-ed league open to all residents and employees of the Fair Lakes community. The season begins in May and runs through the summer with the championship tournament being played in September.

FAIR LAKES VOLLEYBALL LEAGUES

Two leagues make up the Fair Lakes Volleyball League: "A" League, which is competitive and "B" League, which is for those who play at a beginner level or are looking to play in a less competitive atmosphere. The season begins in early May and runs through late August with the championship tournament being played at the end of the season.

Games are played Monday - Friday on the two sand courts in front of Fair Lakes Court North (SRA building). All residents and employees of Fair Lakes are eligible to play. This is a less formal league with no referees – the HONOR SYSTEM is employed when making calls!

FAIR LAKES SCHOLARSHIPS
The Fair Lakes League is proud to offer (3) $1,500 scholarships each Spring to members of the Fair Lakes community who are working hard to continue their education. Fair Lakes' residents and employees, as well as their dependents are eligible to receive the Fair Lakes Scholarship.
Congratulations to the 2009 Scholarship Winners: Daniel Choi, Kate Colfelt and Virginia Reid.  All three received $1,500 scholarships from the Fair Lakes League at a reception on June 18.

FAIR LAKES BLOOD DRIVES
It only takes an hour of your time to help save a life! Each day Inova must see over 200 blood donors in order to meet the demands of local hospitals. See Donor Eligibility.

Fair Lakes Basketball Court

The Fair Lakes League maintains a basketball court between the two SRA buildings at the end of Fair Lakes Court. There are no organized leagues for basketball. The courts are for the residents and employees of Fair Lakes to enjoy.

The Fair Lakes League maintains tennis courts by the IBM & Northrop Grumman Buildings on Federal Systems Drive. There are no organized leagues for tennis. The courts are for the residents and employees of Fair Lakes to enjoy.
